How To Install Rubber Backed Carpet

rubber backed carpet installation Rubber backed carpet is a great choice for many spaces, both residential and public. You can enjoy it in your living room, as well as in school classrooms, hallways or hotel rooms. The rubber is an excellent moisture barrier on concrete floors, therefore it is suitable for a wide array of interiors. You may think that installing rubber backed carpet is a job for professionals. While this is true for most types of carpets and flooring, in this case it is possible to do it yourself without too much knowledge or skill in this area. The best thing about rubber backed carpet is that it comes with the padding already fastened to it, therefore this cumbersome step is not longer necessary.

Preparing to Install Rubber Backed Carpet

Before installing the carpet, you have to make sure the floor is perfectly clean. Vacuum it thoroughly. Remove all doors from their hinges and the molding from the edge of the floors. Use a pry bar and be careful not to damage it, because you'll need to put it back later, after you install the carpet. Install the carpet tape by carefully following the edges of the room. You need to pull off only the bottom protective layer for now, so leave the top one in place. With the same double-sided carpet tape, make some X letters across the entire floor surface. Again, remove only the bottom layer of protective paper when you install the tape. If you need to make a seam, make sure the carpet's pile is going in the same direction on both carpet pieces. It is possible that some carpets have arrows on them, indicating the pile direction. Always allow an excess of 2-3 inches of carpeting around the room and extend the carpet onto the wall. When installing the carpet, you need to fold half of it towards the center, over itself. Remove the protective paper from all tape stripes that are visible, then unfold the carpet back into its final position. Press it firmly against the tape, to make sure it sticks properly. Pull the second half of the carpet over the first one, then repeat the operation. Put the carpet back into position and start pressing it against the sticky tape, working your way from the center of the room to the edges. You'll need a sharp utility knife to cut the edges of the carpet for trimming away the excess of material. If you use brad nails instead of the quarter round molding, make sure to set them into the wall and not into the carpeting. You'll also need metal binding strips for the doorways. Attach them as per the instructions on the strips. As you can see, installing such a carpet is not a very difficult job. The only part that can be a bit tricky is the seam, but if you don't need to create any, you'll be fine. For the seam, you have to be extremely careful, especially when you remove the dried sealer from carpet fibers.
