Choosing Carpet And Color
BUILDERS’ FLOORS & INTERIORS has been in the business of choosing carpet and colors for a long time. I thought a few facts about color blindness might be of interest to you when you do get ready to choose your carpet or redo your home or office.
Many people are color blind when it comes to defining color so a trained professional comes in handy when you are choosing your interior finishes and floor covering. Gwen Christensen of Builders’ Floors & Interiors has worked for many years doing just that…making your selections of carpet, vinyl, prefinished wood floors, ceramic, laminates and other floor covering an easy task!
Carpet comes in a variety of textures and colors.
There are saxony plush carpets for a more formal look such as in bedrooms. There are textured carpets that reflect light and do not show footprints as easily. There are low profile carpets such as level loops that are sturdy for heavy traffic. Tweeds in these colors help mask stains dropped on the top of the surface of the carpet.

Most people who are color blind inherit the trait. The gene for the trait is located on the X Chromosome. If a man inherits the gene for the trait he will have a color vision defect. If a woman inherits a single gene for the trait, she will not, because the normal gene on her other X Chromosome will dominate the defective gene. Women have to inherit the defective trait from both parents to be color blind. Remember, Men are XY Chromosome, Women are XX.
Therefore, men are far more often color blind than women as it only takes one trait to be inherited to make them color blind. There are tests to check for color blind traits. They consists of color dots of two colors of a pattern. The type of color vision problem you have can often be determined by which patterns you can or can’t see in the tests.
