Soft Carpet Fiber
Fiber producers are going further with the development of ultra soft carpet fiber.
The Manufacturers are using precision technologies to enhance
performance while working with these thin carpet fibers.
These soft carpet fibers are measured in fiber thickness, or denier. Most carpet fiber ranges from 900 to 2400 denier.
Soft Carpet Fibers are made up of multiple filaments. When it comes to soft carpet fiber it’s the thinness of the actual filament that makes the difference in quality and feel.
Stainmaster Joins Ultra Soft Carpet Fiber Trend
Stainmaster began this trend toward soft carpet fibers with their Tactesee and Anso’s Caress by changing the denier of the fiber.
Invista introduced Luxurell carpet fiber in 2008 with a denser denier and now touts the ultimate in Barefoot Luxury with their Soft Carpet Fibers of “TruSoft” with four deniers per filament; the softest carpet fiber available!
With the growth in soft carpet fiber the Polymer producers of PET and PTT (Triexta) fibers are in the hunt to produce a softer filament also.
In recent years the whole Stain Master Soft Carpet Fiber Line made by Invista has become steadily softer. The new TruSoft carpet fiber is nearly three times softer than Tactesse and meets the same performance standards as all of its 6.6 residential fibers.
Mohawk Industries has also introduced a soft carpet fiber in SmartStrand Silk. The fiber is 37% bio-based which is integrated into the polymer at a molecular level and will perform like a plastic and not bio-degrade like organic material.
Both Triexta, Pet and Nylon are thermoplastic which indicates they can be remelted and turned into another product helping the environment immensely and still maintaining soft carpet fiber.
